George and James Bashford 1859 - 1871
A guide to dating the photos of George Bashford and James Bashford, Jersey photographers. It is presumed they were related. George W Bashford was born in England in 1834, and worked from 1859 to 1867 at 15, Bath Street St Helier. After that he joined forces with Mercier, working as Bashford and Mercier from 1867 – 1871 at the same address. Photos by George Bashford are quite frequently found, photos by Bashford and Mercier much less so.
James Bashford worked from 1859 – 1867 at 12, Bath Street. His photos are less common than George’s.

His studio and business were taken over by
G Langlois, who worked at the same address
from 1868 - 1871.
At first he used Bashfords CDV cards with
the additional text ‘G Langlois successor to’ above.
Then he put his own name in place of Bashfords
in the same ribbon design.
