Asplet and Green 1866 - 1875
A guide to dating the photographs of Asplet and Green, whose studio was active from 1866 – 1875. CDVs by this studio are quite common, cabinet photos are less often seen.
Prior to working with Green, Asplet worked from 1864 - 1865 with Berger, see under Berger and Asplet for details. John Green worked solo after his partnership with Asplet from 1876 - 1882.
CDV ‘Green’ next to ‘Photographers’ 1866 – 1867 always red printed text, vignette photos.
CDV ‘Green’ underneath ‘Photographers’ 1868 – 1869, green or brown printed text, vignette and full length photos. Props – ornate table with tripod base, urn, closely lined carpet, chair with fringe, curved upholstered back and pompom.
1866 - 1869 Cabinet card - same text as above two photos, arranged slightly differently for the larger size card.
CDV Circular crests 1869 – 1871 green text, full length photos. Props – chair as above but now with material covering legs, ordinary chair, embroidered material.
